Need to move a photo or document from an Android phone to a nearby Windows computer? Google’s Quick Share can transfer files between Android and Windows without a cable. The key setup detail is visibility: choose who can discover your device instead of leaving sharing open by accident.

Set up Quick Share on Windows

Install the official Quick Share for Windows app from Google’s Android site, open it as a standard user—not as administrator—and sign in if you want all options. Samsung PCs should use Samsung’s version from the Microsoft Store, as Google’s instructions specify. In the app’s settings, open Device visibility and choose an option such as Your devices or Contacts. “Everyone” makes the computer visible to anyone nearby using Quick Share; “No one” turns off discovery.

Send and accept a file

On the phone, select the file, tap Share, choose Quick Share, then select the nearby PC. Keep the receiving computer discoverable while you send. If prompted, compare the PIN shown on both devices. The recipient must accept the transfer before it begins; received files on Windows are saved to the Quick Share folder in Downloads.

To send from Windows, open Quick Share, select a file and choose the receiving device. The receiver gets a request and can accept or decline. Google says Quick Share transfers are encrypted and recipients are asked to approve incoming files.

If the computer does not appear

Check that both devices are nearby, Quick Share is installed and open, and the receiver’s visibility allows the sender. Use the narrower “Your devices” or “Contacts” option when it meets your needs. After transferring, return visibility to a more private setting if you do not want the device discoverable.

Use the official installer and never run the app with administrator privileges. That setup choice helps keep a convenient file transfer from becoming an unnecessarily broad sharing window.
