Need to show someone how a setting works or narrate a quick tutorial? iPhone has a built-in screen recorder, and you can switch on microphone audio before recording. The control is easy to miss because a quick tap starts a recording without opening its extra options.

Record the screen with narration

  1. Open Control Center. On many recent iPhones, swipe down from the top-right corner.
  2. Touch and hold the Screen Recording button to open its options.
  3. Tap the Microphone button to turn narration on, then tap Start Recording.
  4. Wait for the countdown and leave Control Center. Stop the recording using the on-screen recording indicator or Control Center.

If Screen Recording is not in Control Center, add it using the Control Center customization controls available in your iOS version. Apple changes the exact customization steps across releases, so look for the control’s add or edit option on your device.

Where the video goes—and what may not record

Your screen recording is saved in Photos. Some apps may block recording of audio or video, and screen recording cannot be used at the same time as screen mirroring. Test a short clip before recording a long tutorial or presentation.

Before sharing, watch the video once. Notifications, message previews, account names, one-time codes and personal photos can appear on screen. Turn on a suitable Focus mode, close sensitive apps and avoid exposing credentials. A screen recording captures what you show; it is not a way to bypass an app’s content protections.

Quick tip: Do a five-second test with the microphone on, then play it back to confirm your voice is clear and the app you are demonstrating permits recording.
